Tararua Strengthening Families:
Supporting families to thrive

Strengthening Families helps you sort things out when life’s challenges weigh you down, whatever your concern or need:

  • Knowing you need to make a change but don’t know how

  • Coping with stress at home.

Strengthening Families brings together the agencies that can help your family/whānau deal with your concerns.

Benefits of Strengthening Families

  • Voluntary for families/whānau
  • Family friendly
  • Respectful of tikanga Māori and cultural diversity
  • Good at helping families connect with their community.

Monthly Network Forum for Support Workers

Do you work with families and individuals needing support and assistance?  On the first Thursday of every month (except January) a networking meeting is held at Tararua REAP for community support workers.

This is a great opportunity to share information about your role and also find out about other support is available to the community.

Your voice is important

The focus of Strengthening Families is always on you and your family/whānau. You choose what will be discussed, when and where your Strengthening Families meetings are held - they could be at a marae or other community setting, for example. You help decide which agencies will be at the meetings; and you can bring family/whānau members and friends for support.

By having everyone together at the same time, you only have to tell your story once.

Your Strengthening Families meeting

At the first meeting, you express what is important to your family/whānau, and what you want to see happen.  Invited agencies will talk about how they will assist you and your family/whānau. Together, you and the agencies will develop a plan to help you achieve your goals, the plan identifies what everyone will be doing in the days and weeks ahead.

Follow-up meetings are held to ensure the plan is working for you.
