Adult & Community Education

Tararua REAP provides a wide variety of ACE (Adult Community Education) programmes within the Tararua District.

In order to provide these programmes, we look at identifying the needs of the community, finding new, different and innovative ways to meet these needs. Tararua REAP aims to listen to your needs and encourages and supports learning processes that challenge and engage further learning for adult learners.

We are always open to any suggestions about programmes or courses you may be interested in.

Further enquiries can be made by contacting Marianne Gemmell on 06 374 6565 or email at marianne@tararuareap.co.nz

Adult and Community Education has three priorities:

  • Targeting learners whose initial learning was not successful
  • Raising foundation skills
  • Strengthening social cohesion.

Tararua REAP actively assesses the educational, economic and social needs of the Tararua district.  We work hard to meet those needs by developing programmes and activities that will address the underlying barriers that hinder people from effectively contributing to our communities.

It's all about participation - giving people the skills to get involved and take an active part in the future of our region. Needs assessment is ongoing, it happens in a variety of contexts, personal contact, surveys, evaluations of programmes, community forums and our interaction with our education and social service partners throughout the region.

Tararua REAP's core ACE Programmes are funded by the Tertiary Education Commission.

Meet Tararua REAP's ACE Coordinator

Marianne Gemmell is the Adult & Community Education Coordinator for the Tararua District.

Marianne's key role is to find out our student and learner needs for programmes, workshops and courses, and help make them happen.  Marianne says that there are loads of advantages to us bringing our learning opportunities to our very own doorstep, including less travel (therefore less cost and time spent travelling) and being able to wrap the course content around our own specific needs and people.

Marianne is very keen to hear back from everyone about the types of adult learning workshops you and/or your clients, workmates, employees, governance members, friends and family might like to see in 2011.  Remember Tararua REAP doesn't only cover Dannevirke, we would also like to include our fellow community members in Woodville, Kumeroa, Norsewood, Ormondville, Weber and Herbertville!

Please feel free to contact Marianne if you have any thoughts on Adult & Community Education in the Tararua Region.  Mondays and Fridays are the best days to catch her at the Tararua REAP office, or leave me a message or email.
